Few actors have been connected to more live action comic book (particularly DC) adaptations than WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Fanboys, “insiders”, and rumor mongers have mentioned him as a possible candidate for such characters as Green Lantern, Black Adam, Martian Manhunter, Gravedigger, and Lex Luthor.
Johnson was in Las Vegas at CinemaCon promoting his upcoming film, Hercules: The Thracian Wars, and he took the time to address the question of which, if any, DC character he might be in serious negotiations to portray on the big or small screen:
Comingsoon.net and SuperHeroHype were present for the interview in which Johnson–while stopping short of dropping any names–offered some tantalizing clues regarding who he might be playing soon:
Like everyone here in the room, I love superheroes, and we’ve been having ongoing discussions, myself and DC, for years about the right character. What would the right character be? And that’s another thing, too. It just had to be right. I won’t tell you who it is, but I’ll tell you the three qualities we’re looking for and I’ll let you guys figure it out, This is going to be fun. Here are the three qualities:
The first quality we were looking for is that he had to be extremely complex and have a lot going on and what that does for me as an actor and for the studio, just gives us space that we can explore his complexities. The other quality is that the character we were looking for had to be well known but never brought to life. That does, again as an actor, is that it gives me a little bit of space and it just gives me a chance to put an imprint into his personality with the set of tools that I can bring to the table and put a very unique twist on his personality but still pay homage to who he is. The third thing and most important is that he had to be a badass mother***ker and on a Superman level of power where he could throw down.
In those three qualities, I’m happy we’ve found that character and right now we’re out to a lot of writers.
So: Complex character, never brought to “life”, badass motherfucker with Superman-level powers…
Way to narrow it down, Dwayne 😛
Some seem to believe/hope The Rock’s talking about Lobo–whom Johnson has been mentioned in conjunction with in the past…Lobo would appear to fit most of the qualifications: But is he truly “Superman-Level”? (I’m honestly asking–I don’t know the character all that well).
If I had to guess, my money would be on Black Adam–he fits Johnson’s criteria perfectly, and one cannot deny how much he looks the part.
He also really digs the character:

Johnson thinks there could POSSIBLY be an announcement of a more specific nature by the time this year’s Comic-Con starts, but, as of yet, there have been no talks about this character appearing in any DC live-action projects currently in development.
