Horror fans have been waiting YEARS for Don Coscarelli to finally put together the fifth Phantasm film, and now Quint over at AICN is claiming that it’s not only happening, there’s already a teaser poster for the surrealist terror picture that’s “100% legit”.
For those not in the know (and if if you ain’t in the know, I don’t wanna know ya, know what I’m sayin’?), Phantasm chronicles the ongoing exploits of Reggie the Ice Cream Man (horror icon/sex god Reggie Bannister) and his good pal Mike (A. Michael Baldwin or James Le Gros, depending on which film you’re watching) as they hunt the sinister Tall Man (Angus Scrimm) and his flying spheres of death and destruction.
Easily one of the most unique horror franchises ever made, the Phantasm films are marvels of low-budget, acid trip ingenuity that were even picked up by a major studio at one point (during the tenure of horror loving President Tom Pollock at Universal). Coscarelli is one of the great cult directors (with other such genre gems like The Beastmaster, Survival Quest, Bubba Ho-Tep and John Dies at the End to his name), but his “marquee” franchise has laid dormant for far too long (Phantasm IV: Oblivion came out in 1998!). The horror director is also a notorious tease, yet Quint claims that not only is this totally real (and titled Phantasm V: Ravager), but will be ready “sooner than you think”.
Check out the poster below and begin screaming with me: “BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYY!”
