Phantasm fans rejoice! Wait a second… how many of us can there really be out there? Whatever. If you happen to be one of them, then you’ve no doubt already heard the news about a fifth installment in the franchise being made. That’s right, the creepy dude with the killer balls is back for more. Now, the overlords of Nerd Bastards bring you the first chance you’ll have to see what the new flick is going to look like. Check out the teaser trailer for Phantasm V: Ravager below.
Originally conceived way back in 1979, this franchise has turned out three sequels over the course of nearly twenty years, the last being in 1998. Yup, it’s been 15 years since Phantasm IV: Oblivion. And fans of the series may be pleased to know that 87-year-old Angus Schrimm is indeed reprising his role as The Tall Man. So fear not the curse of the reboot/remake recast. On the downside, we’re looking at an absence of the original director, Don Coscarelli. Instead, David Hartman will be taking the chair.
If this the first time you’re hearing about it, don’t feel left out of the loop. For the entire thing was shot in secret (over the course of the last 5 years!) under a working title. Apparently they really wanted to make sure their fans were wetting themselves when they heard the news. That also means that the movie is finished, so it should be hitting (select) theaters sometime soon. Unfortunately, no one seems to know when that date is. I guess they’re keeping that a secret as well?
Any of you out there have the same childhood nightmares that I do of Phantasm? Ready to see the franchise come back for more?
