Has a Hollywood production ever come to your town? If it has, then you know what a massive inconvenience it is. Oh sure, it’s cool to think you might bump into a celeb or some how find yourself on camera (sorry, not gonna happen) but that excitement ends the moment you realize the production interferes with your commute. Roadways are often blocked with camera crews, food/equipment trucks and trailers… and they stay there for days on end. You shall not pass, do not pass go do not collect two hundred dollars. Ugh, and then you got the people who flock the scene watching what’s going on, taking pictures and just further gumming up the joint. It’s really a gigantic pain in the ass to the locals who gotta make life through the area, and the local businesses who can’t get their customers. Anyway, that’s what’s about to happen to the people of South Korea as Joss Whedon and crew bring The Avengers: Age of Ultron to Seoul.
AOU will see The Avengers battle Ultron – a cybernetic villain who seeks to upgrade himself and rid the world of the virus that is humanity – across the globe. The production has already shot in South Africa and Italy – and now Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron reportedly will fix its gaze to South Korea, where all-star cast members like Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Robert Downey Jr., will shoot scenes for the highly anticipated Marvel sequel. Shooting will run from March 30 through April 14 in Seoul, and is expected to be pretty disruptive to daily life in the city. Major bridges and areas will be shut down for the shoot. (More details here.)
Because Joss is Boss, and the sweetest, most earnest nerd film maker on the planet, he has put out a video apology to the people of Seoul for the all sorts of crazy that’s about to take place.
Joss doesn’t have to apologize but from what I know, many Asian countries have courtesy and politeness built straight into their language. Whedon showing humility is bound to get him on the good sides of a lot of people in South Korea. Yet another reason to love this guy.
What will Whedon be filming in Seoul? CBM reports from a source that the main sequence set in South Korea will feature Ultron destroying the city. Whedon also is expected to film at a Korean IT institute, where Ultron “tries to acquire state of the art technology.”
