It looks like everyone’s favorite geek guru is gearing up to do a new series. You may have seen him on his YouTube series TableTop. You may have witnessed him make his way through The Guild. Oh yeah, you might remember him from that Star Trek: The Next Generation show that all the kids were talking about. He is Wil Wheaton and now he’s coming back with his own talk show.
Entitled The Wil Wheaton Project, it shall be coming to the SyFy channel and is, according to Wheaton:
“…a weekly roundup of the things I love on television and on the Internet, with commentary and jokes, and the occasional visit from interesting people who make those things happen.
“It’s sort of like Talk Soup for geeks, with a heavy focus on those hilariously bad paranormal reality shows (in fact, that’s where the whole thing started a year ago, but as we worked on the show more and more, we discovered that there were lots of scripted paranormal shows that provided a ton of comedic material.)”
If you’re a fan of Wheaton’s work at all, you’re probably in the same boat as I am. He can be a pretty funny dude, in his own, strangely egotistical way. I may just have to tune into this one and see if it comes together. Hopefully he doesn’t just end up rambling about nonsense the way he sometimes does over on TableTop.
For a hugely elaborate and detailed description of how Wheaton managed to pull this one off, head over to his website, wilwheaton.net, and read his latest blog post. Or just hang out until May 27th when the show airs.
What does the audience think of this? Glad to see Wheaton coming back for more? Does the world really need yet another talk show, or is a geek-centric talk show exactly what the world does need?
