Michael Bay Shakes up TMNT Reboot: Casting Johnny Knoxville & Tony Shaloub as Leonardo & Splinter Voices
Looks like Michael Bay has pulled a “James Earl Jones” by casting Johnny Knoxville and Tony Schaloub to voice Leonardo and Splinter in the upcoming reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. What other character voices might be swapped?
While Pete Plozek (Shameless) pictured above with the blue armband, wore the motion capture turtle suit for all the on set shooting, and we know he had to be doing the lines in the scene as they were shot (Just like David Prowse as Darth Vader in Star Wars), one has to wonder if Plozek knew all along that he was not going to be the voice of Leonardo. That’s now Johnny Knoxville’s gig.
Danny Woodburn (Watchmen, Seinfeld), finds himself in the same boat as Tony Schaloub (Monk, Galaxy Quest), takes over as the voice of Splinter. If you have to be recast or re-voiced, at least Woodburn can say it was for someone with an iconic voice like Schlaoub.
I don’t think Plozek will be able to say the same.
What do you think? was this the plan all along? Should we be expecting more voice casting news in the next couple of days? Will Noel Fisher (Michelangelo), Jerry Howard (Donatello), and Alan Ritchson (Raphael) be getting the same treatment?
TMNT hits theater screens August 8th.
