Word is making the Internet rounds that Ridley Scott (Aliens, Blade Runner), is producing a Halo series for the XBox Live platform. Set in the same world, but completely separate from Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming Halo television series. Although Scott’s will follow the Halo: Forward Unto Dawn format. What’s the difference?
Well, it is interesting that as much as it won’t be connected to Spielberg’s, it will use the first assistant director on eight of Speilberg’s movies, Sergio Mimica-Gezzan. He has an impressive directing background working on shows like Battlestar Galactica and Falling Skies and understands the ins and outs of sci-fi sets and productions.
Other than this new Ridley series being separate, and NOT including Master Chief, there’s not much in the way of details on the story, which is said to follow a surgically enhanced super soldier.
Another positive rumor floating around the series is that Paul Scheuring, the creator and writer of Prison Break, is said to be the top choice to script the new series. We should be hearing more details about the project later this summer at E3.
The budget this time around won’t be the reported $8.5 million that Halo: Forward Unto Dawn boasted, but there could be a lot of cost savings with already created props and sets.
What do you think? Are you excited to see Ridley Scott take a crack at the Halo universe? I would rather Scott took a look at Heinlein’s Starship Troopers and rebooted that series with true armor suits.
If you haven’t seen the series yet, here’s the first webisode:
