Orange is the New Black, probably the most popular and critically acclaimed original series on the online streaming video service Netflix, will return with a second season on Friday, June 6th. Watch the trailer, and a short interview with the cast, after the jump:

OITNB, based on Piper Kerman‘s best-selling novel about the inmates of Litchfield, a women’s prison, was an overnight success with viewers and critics when it premiered last year. The Netflix series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including: Taylor Schilling, Jason Biggs, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Danielle Brooks, Uzo Aduba, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, Laverne Cox, Michael Harney, Samira Wiley, and Yael Stone–among others.

Season Two will introduce Lorraine Toussaint as Yvonne “Vee” Parker. The series is produced by Lionsgate Television and executive produced by Jenji Kohan.

I have to admit, I’ve yet to get around to seeing this show–and other than a number of embarrassingly cheesy”WIP” (women in prison) flicks from the 70s and 80s, I’m not exactly versed in the genre. Several of my friends have been converted to the fandom of this apparently quite addictive series–and insist it’s brilliant, sexy, and riotously funny. It does feature a number of performers I admire greatly, so I’ll probably give it a go eventually.

Netflix shows are strange: Broadcast programs you can watch by “accident” almost–just by tuning to a particular channel and waiting until it happens to come on. Netflix programs work differently–they start and end at the whim of the viewer.

The odd thing is, that actually decreases the likelihood that I’ll see it. There are so many things to watch on Netflix, the odds that when I have a chance to “visit” it I’ll use that time to watch something new are pretty remote….It’s the curse of too many choices.

Could just be me.

But I digress–on with the trailer for season two, followed by a few words from the OITNB cast:
