Some may think that a sequel to Ang Lee’s 2000 film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is unnecessary. Others may feel that it is long overdue. Whatever your opinions on the matter, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny will be coming to a theater near you. The latest news from this project is that filming will be starting up fairly soon.
The filming will take place mostly at Auckland Film Studios in New Zealand with a couple of weeks of location shots in China. The projected start date for the filming is only reported to be “later this year”, but that does mean that the movie is at least moving forward.
Unfortunately, don’t expect to see most of the original cast and crew coming back for the sequel. Director Lee has been replaced with Yuen Woo-ping, the action choreographer from the first flick. And since most of the main characters died during the original movie (spoilers, sorry), Michelle Yeoh will be the only familiar face in the cast. She will be joined by Donnie Yen, presumably as the male lead.
What say the Nerd Readers? Are you excited for the sequel? Or is the original movie something that was perfect without a need for further elaboration?
