With the rights to the Scarlet Witch being split between Team Disney and Team Fox, there’s a bit of a conundrum regarding whether fans will be able to deal with two incarnations of the character. Still, the folks at both camps refuse to give up the chance to use these two fan favorites. Now – problem solved! It looks like the Fox guys never even planned to use Scarlet Witch in X-Men: Days of Future Past, excepting in an off-screen capacity. Further, it looks like even that little bit has been removed.
So who are the kids in this pic?
The silver-haired kid is obviously Quicksilver, but as for the sister? Well, in an interview with Empire Magazine, Bryan Singer told us a little more, enough to where anyone that’s familiar with the X-Men comic books will know exactly who she is.
“Is that the Scarlet Witch? No, that’s his little sister. I even had a line which I cut, where Quicksilver’s mother says to the little girl, ‘Go up and bug your sister,’ and the little girl says, ‘She bugs me!’ You never see the older sister, but it was to imply that there is an older sister for comic book fans. I ended up cutting it.”
So it looks like Polaris will be making an appearance. Or maybe just an appearance as a little sister. If you’re unfamiliar with Polaris, you only need to know that she’s another of Magneto’s brood, a girl that was gifted with the same mastery of magnetism as her father. And in the future/alternate world storylines, she’s a raging bad-ass.
Some speculate that this might be a lead-in to the already planned X-Men: Apocalypse, which would be pretty cool, IMO. Considering that Polaris isn’t usually working for the bad guys, a showdown between Magneto and his daughter could be quite the visual spectacle.
Check it all out, Scarlet Witch or not, when X-Men: Days of Future Past hits the big screens on May 23rd.
