It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for, all the rumor mongering and guess work has led to this, and on the cusp of the beginning of principal photography on Star Wars Episode VII, we now know who will be joining the film, both new and returning cast members, in one of the most highly anticipated films of the decade. So who made the list?
The new cast includes: John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. Returning from the original trilogy are Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.
The announcement was made on StarWars.com and read like this:
Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

So who are these newbs in the Star Wars Universe? Let’s do a rundown.
John Boyega – Star of the cult hit Attack the Block who will next appear in the new season of 24.
Daisy Ridley – Has appeared in several British TV series you’ve likely never heard of.
Adam Driver – Co-star in HBO’s Girls who had been previously leaked as a member of the cast in the villain role.
Oscar Isaac – Has appeared in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, Drive and Sucker Punch, but perhaps is most well-known for playing the title role in the Cohen Brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis.
Andy Serkis – The motion capture master behind Gollum (The Lord of the Rings), King Kong, and Cesar (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).
Domhnall Gleeson – Has had small roles in genre films like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Dredd, but he starred as the romantic lead in last year’s About Time.
Max von Sydow – The legendary actor from such films as The Exorcist, The Greatest Story Ever Told and Minority Report. Interesting side note, he was also the voice of Viggo the Carpathian in Ghostbusters II.
