Word around the Internet today has Justin Kurzel (Snowtown) as the frontrunner to direct the Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender. Why would Regency, Ubisoft, and Fassbender be considering Kurzel to direct?

Here’s a picture of Kurzel after he accepted the AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) award for best director, last year.

His next project was the film Macbeth with the Weinstein Company which happened to star…you guessed it, Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Fassbender must have developed a good working relationship with Kurzel during Macbeth‘s production because, most likely, Fassbender suggested him for the Assassin’s Creed director’s chair.

This is still just talk with no ink on paper yet, but considering that the star is on board for this director, it’s not a great leap to consider putting him behind the camera once again.

Here’s the trailer for Snowtown, Kurzel’s award-winning film based:

On a true story also known as the “Bodies in Barrels” murders. John Bunting, considered Australia’s most prolific serial killer, seduced a ragtag group of degenerates into torturing and murdering men the virulently homophobic Bunting knew or suspected were gay.

What do you think? Would Kurzel make a good choice for director? He does know how to capture gritty violence and bring it to the big screen.
