mad max fury road

A new installment of the Mad Max series is finally almost here! Of course, whether Mad Max: Fury Road measures up to the previous films still remains to be seen. After all, we’ve got a new Max, it’s been nearly 30 years since the previous film and the fourth movie in the franchise has been a nightmare to get finished. Still, it is coming and fans of Mad Max are excited. And now we have the chance to hear a little about how well the movie is doing in front of screening audiences. Plus, we get an official synopsis. Scroll on for all the info.

So how have director George Miller and the new incarnation of Max, Tom Hardy, done? Apparently, the early screenings are “testing extremely well”. What’s more, the screening copy of the flick was still minus a lot of the fine tuning, such as sound, music and FX. But even in this state, people are digging it. And that makes me very, very happy in my soul (and in my pants).

Here’s the very brief review from one lucky bastard that got to sit through the initial screening:

“This movie feels like thirty years of Miller holding in passion for a world that he built so long ago, exploding on the screen… You want groovy cars? By the car-carrier load! You want auto combat? Parts strewn for miles! You want practical f/x and stunts? I wonder how many on the stunt team died making this madness?!”

And, finally, here is the official synopsis:

“MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.
“Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by TOM HARDY from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.
“And… Furiosa (played by CHARLIZE THERON from Prometheus), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.”

Unfortunately, we still have more than a year to go before Mad Max: Fury Road hits the theaters on May 15th of 2015. But at least it’s looking positive!

What say the Nerd Readers/Mad Max junkies out there? Excited to see the new flick? Are the positive reactions making you crave it even more?
