For those of us that still cling to the possibility of there being a sequel to 2012’s Dredd, every bit of news is good news. Unless they say they never plan on doing it… then that would be bad news, of course. But this week does not bring that final confirmation of abandonment. Instead, it looks like things are going much the same for Dredd 2 as they have been for the last two years. Read on for more.
In a recent interview, Dredd producer Adi Shankar was asked about the potential for a Dredd sequel. What did he have to say? That “conversations are happening”. That’s pretty much the same exact thing that Karl Urban had to say a month back. Shankar also made sure to let us know that just because people are conversing, it doesn’t mean that we’re going to see the sequel come to fruition.
He also pointed out that due to the fact that the first flick had a multitude of distributors, it’s been a pain in the butt getting any one person interested enough to back the film. Further, Shankar stated that there was no script ready for any potential sequel.
Sorry, folks. It looks like Dredd 2 is in about the same state as it has been for the last couple of years. Despite a very strong and very vocal fanbase that is screaming for a sequel to be made, the powers-that-be just don’t have enough faith that the film would make them the money they crave.
The only good news to come out of this is that those who made and loved the first film have not yet forgotten about it. So let’s hope that the combination of an eager audience and a devoted cast and crew can make something happen eventually.
