More casting news from the Josh Trank Fantastic Four reboot camp. The film has added Reg E. Cathey to the cast to play…

Dr. Storm, the father of Sue (Kate Mara) and Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan).

You’ve seen Cathey around, he was on The Wire, House of Cards, Banshee, and has done a lot of episodic television work you’ve probably seen. I have to say that when I first saw this news and started writing this post I wanted to use this picture:

Mainly as a tweak at all those people bemoaning the casting of Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm. Both Jordan and Cathey are terrific actors that will nail the hell out of their respective roles. I have faith in their talent because of everything I have seen them in before, but then I thought some might take that picture as a shot at the casting of Cathey. Which is definitely not the case. Jordan and Cathey have worked together before and had some chemistry. Jordan’s first real work and the first time I noticed him, was on The Wire.

For all those that had such a problem with Johnny Storm being black, while his sister Sue was white, get over it. There are blended families across our great country and thousands of children will be able to see themselves in this heroic pair on the big screen.

Whether or not they are biological, adopted, step, or any of the other myriad ways families in this world of ours are put together these days, they are family, and that’s what matters in the Fantastic Four universe. Any long time reader knows that and should be able to accept that family means more than just DNA. It means taking care of each other and being there when things get tough.

Could we also get some casting news about Mrs. Storm today? It could just boil down to a scene with one of the characters holding a picture of their mother or some background shot in an office, but there could also be an actress in a few set up scenes.

The film is currently shooting Louisiana, and will hit theater screens June 19th, 2015.

What are your thoughts about this casting?
