As James Cameron toils away in pre-production for the back-to-back-to-back Avatar sequels nobody asked for (can we even find a legit fan of these films any longer?), questions have swirled around the three upcoming pictures. What are they even about, and who from the original cast will even return for the second, third and fourth go-rounds?
Well, confirmation from one major cast member has come, as Sigourney Weaver says that she will, indeed, be returning for all three Avatar sequels.
Talking to Vulture, Weaver had this to say:
“It’s going to be an adventure! It will be awesome. I can’t even imagine what I am taking on — and what James Cameron is taking on — with filming three Avatars at once, but … Peter Jackson did it with the Hobbit films, so we have that to look to. It will be challenging for me. I can’t talk about it, but my part is a little different in each one. I’ll transform somewhat. We’ll have to talk again when I survive this. For now, I’m going to skittle around and enjoy this leisure time.”
Seems like Weaver doesn’t even quite know what the hell she’s doing there, either. As usual, the veil of secrecy regarding the projects is being kept firmly intact. Here’s hoping we’re given some kind of info soon (Comic-Con? Nah…probably too soon…) in order to start drumming up any kind of anticipation for the mega-blockbusters.
The first Avatar sequel is tentatively scheduled to be released in December 2016, with the subsequent installments hitting in 2017 and 2018.
