Today, we here at Nerd Bastards bring you yet another Internet rumor being circulated by Latino Review. So, in case you don’t already know, take it with a grain of salt. The rumor, if it proved to be true, could be pretty exciting, however, for it appears that we might be seeing a Sub-Mariner movie coming to theaters some time in 2016.
Universal Pictures announced (much the same way as the Disney/Marvel machine did) that they have a “mystery” picture coming out on November 4th of 2016. It also happens that Universal owns the rights to the Sub-Mariner. Thus, they could be making their own move into the super hero movie wars.
It has been said before that the film set for that date is a new flick that will not reboot another property and will not carry on an already existing property. If that little bit of information is true, then the chances of Universal releasing a Sub-Mariner flick are increased. With the success of super hero films during the last decade and the money to be made, it’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility. Of course, that means yet one more studio in the mix and yet another hero that will be stuck in his own universe.
For those unfamiliar with the Namor/Sub-Mariner – He lives under the ocean, but he’s way cooler than Aquaman. He’s also been around in the comic book world for a long, long time. He’s super strong, he can fly (he was the first comic hero ever to be able to fly, in fact) and he’s been both hero and villain during his time. He also joined both the Avengers and the X-Men over the years.
What say the Nerd Readers? Would you like to see the Sub-Mariner on the big screen? Or is a fourth super hero movie-producing studio just one too many?
