It is an inevitable consequence of the copyright laws that some of our favorite super heroes are owned by one company and can’t legally appear in other companies’ universes. The chances of competitors cooperating for a cross-over are almost zero, so it’s just something we have to live with. One character that’s managed to transcend these mystical boundaries, however, is Quicksilver. As part of both Fox’s X-Men world and Disney’s Avengers world, he holds a unique place on the big screen. Of course, with two incarnations of Quicksilver showing up in the next couple of years, some folks have begun to get irritated. Now, X-Men: Days of Future Past writer, Simon Kinberg is stepping up to comment on this issue.
Check out this short video is which Kinberg chats about Quicksilver and the potential for his sister, the Scarlet Witch, to appear in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse:
So it looks like we’ll be seeing plenty more of Quicksilver and quite possibly be getting a different incarnation of Scarlet Witch as well. Considering that some of the folks that have already seen the new X-Men: Days of Future Past are talking up the Singer/Kinberg interpretation of Quicksilver, I have faith that we’re going to get two different but equally interesting incarnations of these characters. Now if only we could hand out copyrights to all the characters and get many versions from the various companies, all would be right with the world.
