Arkham Knight

I’ve been a big fan of the Batman Arkham games but it seems that Rocksteady and WB Games have really, finally nailed it.

This latest trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight looks like the Batman game you’ve been waiting for your entire life. That’s not to the say previous games were bad. They were great (well, except Arkham Origins but that’s a different story for a different day) but just the tip of the iceberg, the filling before the sweet, sweet cake. Arkham Knight the the culmination of these games and it looks damn good.

Check out the latest gameplay trailer below and prepare thy lungs for excited squealing.

Arkham Knight allows you to play as Batman as you tour all over Gotham City and save it from the clutches of The Scarecrow (and seemingly many more). Something is happening to Gotham – as always – but the trailer doesn’t reveal exactly what. Some sort of quarantine. The city is being evacuated but that doesn’t mean Batman gets to take it easy. Oh no, that just makes his job harder.

The game will be similar to the three that proceeded it but this one includes one major bonus: the Batmobile. It’s shown off in the preview and you even get to see in-game footage of it in action, speeding along the walls of a tunnel. Even if the entire game is a bust, driving the Batmobile is going to be one hell of a rush.

But it’s not just the car that gets me excited for Arkham Knight. It’s the fact that the game map is absolutely massive, reportedly five times larger than Arkham City, which had a gigantic map itself. I’m also beyond ready to play a game that was solely produced for next generation. Knight will launch on Playstation 4 and X Box One, finally giving many a taste of what the new consoles can really do.

Last but not least, I’m eager to see what Rocksteady does as a finale. This is the studio’s last Batman game and they promise to tie up loose ends and go out on top. There will be more Batman games in the future, of course, but this is Rocksteady’s last time at bat. If this trailer is any indication, they are swinging for the fences.

One slight bummer about the trailer: the release date is listed as “coming soon”, which is different from the promise of late 2014 we heard a few months ago. While it still might be hitting shelves this Fall/Winter, it seems like they are giving themselves a little wiggle room in case a delay is needed.

Oh well, the wait will be worth it right?
