Thanos, one of the biggest and most important villains in the Marvel universe, is definitely making his way to the big screen. After appearing briefly in a credits stinger during The Avengers, many have assumed the Mad Titan would be popping up in Guardians of the Galaxy (he is Gamora’s father, after all) and in future Avengers films. Even Joss Whedon and other Marvel bigwigs have said Thanos is on his way, most likely being the main villain in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Oh, he’s coming. He’s coming and he has been cast.
Simply put: Josh Brolin will be voicing Thanos.
The news, initially broken by the scoop masters at Latino Review, is a bit confusing but becoming more clear with time. Thanos will be making an appearance in Guardians with a bigger part destined for The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Brolin’s got a deep, gruff, intimidating voice perfect for the role. Apparently he’s only been cast as the voice, meaning that if they decide to mo-cap the character, it’ll likely be done by someone else. However, maybe Brolin will end up suiting up for that too. Since Guardians is just a couple months away and Ultron is already in production, he’ll be thrown into the part quickly.
Thanos is one hell of a bad guy. A member of The Eternals, he is a god-like mad man who has attempted to wipe out the human race multiple times in the comics. His cameo at the end of The Avengers got many comic fans excited, suggesting subsequent Avengers films will go into space and beyond. Thanos is a big, grand, explosive character – a great comic book persona. Seeing him on the big screen promises lots of blockbuster action.
Look at Thanos and tell me you don’t picture Brolin’s voice in that part. Marvel, always known for their genius casting, have once again done it again. All hail Lord Thanos!
