A few months back, the trailer for the new Jonathan Liebesman-directed, Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake was released, and instant fan reaction to the look of these rebooted Turtles was, ahem, not kind. What was missing from the equation was a real good look a the Turtles’ mentor Splinter, and their arch-nemesis The Shredder. Prepare to get your first, real decent look at the characters in the upcoming big studio feature.
The following images, courtesy of the website Idle Hands, has the following images courtesy of the new book, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History. Here’s your look at Shredder played by William Fichtner:
And here’s a look at Splinter played by Danny Woodburn:
To my mind, Shredder looks a little too much like a Bayformer from the waist down, but I do like the look of Splinter though. It would have been nice if they had been true to the source material and hired Japanese or Japanese-American actors to play the parts, but I understand the (racial) politics of Hollywood. Splinter is still the biggest question mark about the film because I think we all know that Fichtner’s good at playing the heavy, but we don’t know what approach the film will take with Splinter, will he be old and infirm, or will he get some action in the film?
As you ponder that, here’s some other pics of the book, from the book:
