Arkham Knight

Remember a little while ago when I was gushing about how cool the new video game Batman: Arkham Knight is going to be. Rocksteady’s epic finale, the game will allow players to explore an open-world Gotham City as Batman and even drive the Batmobile. Next-generation graphics, a map larger than anything seen before and the ability to finally control Batman’s ride? This, I said, will be the Batman game we’ve all been waiting for.

Well, it’s still going to be the Batman game we’ve been waiting for but that wait just got extended by a bit.

Sadly, Arkham Knight will not be out in late 2014 as originally stated. Rocksteady released a new promo video for the game today (seen below) and the very end of the clip promises the game in 2015. So any plans you had to save Gotham City in October have just been cancelled.

It’s not really that surprising, to be honest. This game is going to be a behemoth, bigger than any of its predecessors. Games like this get delayed often. Select game bloggers were able to play some of Arkham Knight a few months ago and loved what they saw but also commented on a lot of glitches and a choppy frame rate. Obviously Rocksteady isn’t just delaying the game for no reason, they’ve still got a lot of work to do. That extra works means a better game so we should be applauding this move.

But still, my heart was really set on late 2014.

Whenever the game finally hits, it’ll surely be something to spend 60 bucks on. While Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Origins were impressive (the first two great, the last one only pretty good) Arkham Knight promises to truly capture what Rocksteady has been aiming for since the beginning: an open-world version of Batman that’ll knock the socks off of gamers and make you feel like you are the Dark Knight. A massive landscape full of missions and bad guys and trouble around every corner. Hours and hours of gameplay, buildings to crawl, crooks to capture and gadgets to use.

This game will be something special, no matter how long we have to wait.
