Hot on the heels of the opening weekend box office success of Maleficent, Disney is set to take another beloved fairy tale to the big screen. This time Disney will produce a live action version of Beauty and the Beast.

Disney has brought on Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Gods and Monsters) to direct this latest incarnation of the much used fairy tale. Just take a look at the many times this tale has been told on television, stage theater, movies, and animation, it’s almost staggering.

Writer Evan Spiliotopoulos will pen the script, those of us unfamiliar with his work can check out his style in Dwayne Johnson‘s upcoming action film Hercules. That movie should be a good gauge on how well Spiliotopoulos can take a well-worn tale and freshen it up for the modern audience.

Casting for this movie should be fun, but I am left with the question, “Will the animated furniture be a part of this movie?” More likely those parts will be changed to servants of the Beast, but I’d be willing to let Belle’s imagination and loneliness create those characters in her own mind. More of a survival mechanism to combat her loneliness.

Will the production team go for a big star like they did for Maleficent, or someone new to audiences? Who would you cast in the title roles?

I don’t think this will be a dark and gritty reboot type production, but what direction do you think Spiliotopoulos will take the tale?
