One of the absolute best parts of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers was how he got Hulk so right on screen. While Mark Ruffalo was quite impressive (as always — have you seen Zodiac?) playing Bruce Banner, it was the big green beastie who SMASHED! his way into film fans’ hearts everywhere. Now that Joss Whedon’s Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron, is currently in production, tidbits regarding what to expect are trickling out. And it seems that we might see much more of Banner’s rampaging alter ego.
Speaking with Total Film, Ruffalo had this to say about his role:
“It’s even bigger than last time, and it’s more complex and it has more layers and a bit more arc…”
And it even seems like Ruffalo is enjoying the process of bringing Hulk to life much more than the first go round, as he had this to say about the motion capture process:
“I’m really tripping on the technology of this motion-capture stuff… now I just completely embrace it and see it as this other exciting place we can go as performers.”
Can I take this moment to comment on how fucking cool Mark Ruffalo seems? He’s got such a charismatic, laid back delivery, both in interviews and on screen, that’s completely infectous. There are definitely times when he comes off like your super talented stoner buddy (who obviously never became as famous as Ruffalo did), able to discuss and convey passion for art in the least pretentious way possible.
Anyways — The Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1, 2015. It stars the Avengers, some space aliens and James Spader.
