One big name that Disney is adding to their list of Marvel characters on the big screen in the legendary Doctor Strange. We found out a short while ago that they’d chosen Scott Derrickson (Sinister) as the director for the film, but so far there hasn’t been any word (other than ridiculous rumors) about who will actually play the titular character. Given the Doc’s unique nature, they’ll need to find someone pretty bad-ass to take on this iconic role. Now, it looks like they have two names on their roster of possibilities. Scroll on for more.
The first name in the running is the ever-popular Benedict Cumberbatch. You may know him as Sherlock on the BBC series of the same name. Or possibly as Khan from the last Star Trek flick. But however you first discovered Cumberbatch, you have to admit that he’s a pretty fine actor. What’s more, he’d probably make an excellent Stephen Strange.
The other name is none-other-than the former Bane and soon-to-be Max Rockatansky (aka Mad Max), Tom Hardy. While Hardy is an excellent actor, I’d have to place him lower on my list of preferred Stranges given that I have yet to see him in a role that demands the surplus of charisma that the role would entail.
Both actors are in high demand, so we shall see if Disney has the pull to bring them onboard. If other rumors are true, the Great Mouse plans on making Doctor Strange their new flagship character, akin to what they did with Robert Downey, Jr. and Tony Stark/Iron Man. This would mean that whichever actor they chose, that individual better be ready to take on a long-term contract. Somehow, I don’t see either of the two actors being ready to commit that much time, especially considering how well their careers are going at the moment. Still, we can always dream.
What say the Nerd Readers? Would you prefer Cumberbatch or Hardy? Or is there someone else you have in mind?
