A Double Dose of Lara Croft Announced at E3

Amongst the goodies at Microsoft’s E3 presentation this morning was the announcement that we’re getting not just one, but two new Tomb Raider games in the near future. Following up on last year’s critically and commercially successful reboot of the franchise, Tomb Raider, developers Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics seem to have their eyes on a true Croftian renaissance. But will they succeed? Let’s roll the videotape on the two new trailers for the games and see.

First up is Rise of the Tomb Raider. Billed as a direct sequel to Tomb Raider, the game will follow Lara’s evolution to the kick ass adventuress she’s destined to become by taking her deeper into the secret world she’s discovered, while also being threatened by some shadowy conspiracy guys who think she now knows too much. There’s a lost city, and a secret buried in the ancient tombs of the world and only Lara Croft can put together the pieces to solve the complex puzzle while returning fire to the bad guys that want to stop her.

Next up is what looks like an “original universe” Tomb Raider game, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. This sequel to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light finds Lara forced to team up with rival archaeologist Carter Bell and the Egyptian gods Horus and Isis. The game will require all four players to work together because it is a co-operative story, and as a united force, Lara and the gang have to solve brain teasers and fight fearlessly to stop the horde from being unleashed from the Egyptian underworld. Here’s a look at the game:

Rise of the Tomb Raider will be out in on shelves during the holiday season of 2015. The Temple of Osiris does not yet have a release date.

We’ll have more E3 news as it develops.
