Sigourney Weaver fans have known for a long time that death can’t stop her characters in movies. She’s returned to life as a clone in the Aliens franchise and now James Cameron has decided to bring her back for the next two Avatar sequels.

You might be wondering how Weaver’s character Grace Augustine, who died in the first Avatar movie, would be brought back. Would it be another clone, or time warp, or some Na’vi super nature science? Nope, James Cameron isn’t going to jump through any story line plot hole hoops, he’s just going to bring Sigourney Weaver back, as a brand new character.

Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made Aliens. We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together,so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the Avatar sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.

Cameron made the statement while talking about the Avatar franchise with THR.  What do you think? Will fans accept this simple explanation that Augustine and this new character just look-alike?

It’s more likely in my nerdy opinion, that Weaver will be playing a brand new Alien character and not appear on-screen as a human or Na’vi. Some new, or returning threat to the Na’vi perhaps. One could easily picture Weaver playing a villain in this next set of movies, unless Cameron is going to reverse the Avatar program and insert Weaver as a Na’vi in a Human Avatar body. That would be an interesting twist. Will fans even give half a second’s thought to this double live for Weaver in Avatar?
