As well all know, unauthorized pictures from the set of Star Wars Episode VII has been a problem from the word “Go.” Sometimes though, we do get some legit stuff, legit peaks behind the curtain at Pinewood, like J.J. Abrams‘ response to the leaks. In another legit peak from the set, this one’s all business. Because if there’s one thing that can get a director and a producer of a mega-franchise out of a media hidey-hole, it’s the guy that controls the purse strings in the U.K.
Allow us to clarify: George Osborne is the Chancellor of the Exchequer, which, according to Wikipedia is “the title held by the British Cabinet minister who is responsible for all economic and financial matters, equivalent to the role of Minister of Finance or Secretary of the Treasury in other nations.” But he wasn’t on set because he’s a major Star Wars geek (or at least not only), he had a special announcement to make in regards to Star Wars and its effect on the U.K. film industry.

Boom! It looks like one of the announced spin-offs is going to shoot in England too. Safe money would be on the Gareth Edwards‘ flick, because it already has a December 2016 release date in mind, but that doesn’t mean that Josh Trank‘s movie can’t come to Pinewood later. And if it is a long-term plan to make Pinewood Star Wars‘ home, then it would follow that Episode VIII and Episode IX will likely shoot there too. With business out of the way, it was now time to pose for the announcement’s official selfie with Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy and R2-D2.
Now you’ll notice some of the set building in the background, specifically the upper left hand corner. Some are pointing saying, hey, it’s the Millennium Falcon. Others are saying, hey, it’s a TIE Fighter. Me? I think its the steering wheel on a giant wooden space pirate ship. But seriously, R2 is now the most photographed member of the Episode VII. I take this to mean that the droid has a huge part in the film. Prove me wrong, J.J.
Star Wars Episode VII is in theaters everywhere December 2015.
