Oh, Hellboy 3 – it’s been in our hearts and on our minds for the last five years. Unfortunately, the studio hasn’t been that keen on the idea and Guillermo del Toro is busy making buttloads of cash, so it doesn’t look likely to happen anytime soon. Still, actor Ron Perlman isn’t giving in just yet. When talking with ComicBookMovie, the former Hellboy himself had a few words to share regarding the possibility of the project and whether he would like to be involved. Scroll on for more.
Here’s what Perlman had to say about Hellboy 3:
I’d like to finish it. I’d like for there to be a third film because the first two films were set up for this huge resolve and he already understands what that resolve will look like. He never gave me the nuts and bolts of it, but he gave me a rather broad strokes sketch of what the third film would look like and it’s so epic and so deserved by the fans that hung in there for the first two that I really feel as though it’s essential that we make it. So I fight for it every day. Sometimes I’m the only voice and sometimes there are others, but I’m never going to stop trying to get Hellboy 3 made.
Considering the rather meager box office of the first two Hellboy flicks, Perlman could have quite the fight on his hands. Still, it’s nice to know that he genuinely wants to get it done. Not too many actors marry themselves to a role so deeply that they’re willing to actively petition for a resolution to the story. Unless they happen to be out-of-work… but that’s an entirely different situation.
If del Toro resumes his previous stance of wanting to pursue a final chapter of the Hellboy franchise, we may even see Perlman’s (and our) wishes come to fruition. Let’s just hope our director doesn’t end up making Pac Rim sequels for the remainder of his life, or we’re doomed.
What say thee, Nerd Readers? Should a third Hellboy flick be top priority for Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman? If the production companies won’t fund it, should they just go the Kickstarter route to get it done?
