Despite some lukewarm expectations, it seems that Fox’s Gotham might not be that bad. If early buzz is to be believed (and when is early buzz ever wrong?) the Batman-inspired drama isn’t a total disaster. In fact, it’s quite good.
In hopes of getting more Batman fans psyched up for the show without Batman, Fox has released another trailer packed to the gills with villains. Lots and lots of villains. We’ve got your Penguin, your Catwoman, even new bad guys like Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith).
See, pretty cool right? And it wasn’t just villains in there, it also featured a little bit of future-Commisoner Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and rough-around-the-edges detective Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue). It seems like these two have their work cut out for them. Did you see that devilish smile the Penguin had? That guy is going to cause some serious trouble.
If you think this is the last promo you’ll see for Gotham then you are dead wrong. Oh no, Fox is going to paste Gotham on everything. Internet banners, commercials, magazine ads, behind-the-scenes featurettes. The network has a lot riding on this show. And think about what happens if this show is a hit like Arrow? The track record for shows based on comic characters is hit-or-miss (don’t get me started on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) but if Gotham takes off then you are going to see many, many more of them. Does that mean Martian Manhunter will finally get his own show? For God’s sake, I hope so.
Are you down with Gotham? Does this latest trailer get you interested or is it going to take a lot more to get your Batmobile motor running?
Oof, that sounded dirty. Sorry.
