Once again, the fine folks at Wizard World took over the Pennsylvania Convention Center for the Wizard World show, bringing Matt Smith, Nathan Fillion, Norman Reedus and Ralph Macchio (there were other big stars, I just felt like no one ever highlights the Karate Kid anymore) to the area’s largest non-Jacob Javitz Center hosted pop culture convention.
While the stars were out in full force (along with the hordes of people on line to snag a photo or an autograph from them), we kept our focus trained on the best part of convention season (in my humble opinion) — the cosplay.
In our gallery, you’ll see your fair share of Marvel and DC inspired costumes, some familiar video game characters, a couple of Disney Princess’, Steampunk, some Game of Thrones and an actual wizard.
Besides cosplay, there were a few other sites but nothing that is on-par with New York Comic Con or San Diego, of course. We didn’t have a chance to check out any of the panels in that we only went on Saturday, but the show floor was busy but not jam-packed and the vendors offered up the usual mix of comic books, action figures and apparel. Besides those staples, there were also some vendors selling homemade and otherwise unique nerdy goods. We hope to tell you a little bit more about those products and those vendors in the near future.
Artist’s alley was similarly well stocked, but the convention didn’t bring out the heavy hitters on that side of the aisle like they did with actors and other entertainers. Wizard World will never be labeled a “Capital C” comic convention like Heroes Con (which also took place last weekend), Baltimore Comic Con or ReedPop’s New York Special Edition convention from two weeks ago, but in that that base is so well covered, there’s nothing wrong with a show that is so focused on the actors that often ensoul our favorite comic book characters… especially if you have the money and the time to buy a moment of their time.
Wizard World returns to Philadelphia in just 10 1/2 short months, with the show scheduled to take place between May 7th through the 10th. NerdBastards will be at San Diego Comic Con next month to report on all the big news and we’ll also be at the Baltimore Comic Con and New York Comic Con, as well as – quite possibly – a few others before con season leaves as quickly as it arrived.
Before we let you go, here are a few other sites from the convention.
