There’s new casting news from Marvel‘s new Netflix Daredevil series. This time around we know for certain what character has been cast, Matt Murdock’s long time friend and law partner Foggy Nelson. Who’s playing the role?
Last week Rosario Dawson joined the cast in an unspecified role, a role that I’m now pretty sure is a character called the Night Nurse. This time around it’s a big character in the Daredevil world, Foggy Nelson.
Marvel has just announced that Elden Henson will play the role. That’s right a former Mighty Duck will play Matt Murdock’s best friend and law partner.
This cast is shaping up nicely. Charlie Cox in the lead as Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as the mainstay villain Kingpin and Rosario Dawson in that still un-named role, *cough *cough Night Nurse. It looks like Marvel is really raising the bar on this series, starting with the casting.
Here’s Marvel’s official press release:
Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that acclaimed actor Elden Henson has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.
With a diverse body of acclaimed work, including the “Hunger Games” and “Mighty Ducks” franchises, Elden Henson will play Foggy Nelson, Matt Murdock’s best friend and legal partner. In a town full of crime and corruption, Foggy’s friendship to the community and passion for improving it have made him a friend to its many residents from all walks of life.
Henson joins Charlie Cox (previously announced as Matt Murdock), Vincent D’Onofrio (previously announced as Wilson Fisk) and Rosario Dawson in the critically-lauded cast of “Marvel’s Daredevil.”
“Elden plays one of the most important characters in the world of ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ and we’re thrilled to see Foggy Nelson brought to life by such an incredibly talented actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “He perfectly captures the heart and soul of this series, bringing an added resonance to Matt Murdock’s fight against the injustice in their great city.
“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
Marvel’s first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight (“Spartacus”, “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer”, “Angel”) and Drew Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”, in addition to writing the first two episodes of Daredevil), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Smallville,” “Heroes”).
“Marvel’s Daredevil” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
We’ll next see Henson in the two-part The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2. He’s playing the part of Pollux, a Capitol cameraman who films Katniss Everdeen in the District 13 propos (Propaganda pieces).
That’s an on set picture above, Henson is the one with the pony tail right behind Peeta (Josh Hutcherson). Pollux is a former Avox, a person punished for rebelling against the Capitol, has had their tongue cut out, and are often forced to work as domestic servants for tributes and Capital Citizens. Avox is Latin and means “without a voice.”
The role of Foggy will be a nice opportunity for Henson to get in front of Marvel audiences in a weekly manner. We’ve seen him in a lot of popular shows doing episodic work, now we can see him in a meatier role.
