Any geek worth the name would happily give himself or herself over to the Dark Side for a chance to visit the set of the most anticipated science fiction film in the history of cinema.

Director/Writer/Podcaster/Highly Influential Nerd Kevin Smith was recently offered an invitation to tour the sett of JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII, and his reaction was true to his reputation as one of the world’s foremost SW fanboys.

The above photo displays Mr. Smith’s teary-eyed state as he looked upon what must have been his own personal Nirvana. He posted it to Instagram along with these words:

Visited JJ and his EP VII set. I signed the NDA so all I can share are this old Bantha-Tracks subscriber’s tears and snotty nose of joy. The Force is WITH this movie. Holy Sith…

What exactly Smith may have learned about the upcoming picture he, naturally, cannot say–but I’ll bet it’s killing him that he can’t talk about it.

Smith has incorporated at least a little SW-related material in every one of his films, starting with this wonderful scene in Clerks where the leads discuss the unjust fate of the poor, blameless contractors and construction workers who died in Return of the Jedi when the Rebels destroyed the second Death Star:

I’ve always been an admirer of Smith and his films (I have personal issues regarding Chasing Amy–but that’s just me). He’s been a nerd in the public eye since before it was hip, and I’d say he’s on the short list of people who really deserved to be granted a look at the SW7 set.
