The cast list for Marvel’s Ant-Man continues to grow as Deadline reports the film has just added David Dastmalchian. No, I didn’t know how to pronounce it either, but fortunately there’s a Youtube video for everything.
Dastmalchian has racked up more than a handful of TV show guest spots, but is most recognizable for the disturbed characters he portrayed in a couple high profile films. He played The Joker’s henchman Thomas Schiff in 2008’s The Dark Knight. In last year’s amazing Prisoners, he portrayed a tortured victim whose actions make him a suspect in a missing children case. He was most recently seen on the FX comedy The League, and Showtime’s Ray Donovan. These roles might give a clue as to how the actor will be used in the film that will kick off Phase 3 of Marvel’s cinematic universe.
If were to take a guess, I’d say he’s playing psychotic Goon #3.
If you don’t see the point in reporting that a small actor has joined a film when we don’t even know his role or how big a part he will play, well then, I’ll leave you with this: Dastmalchian also starred in that Wendy’s commercial from way back when, so yeah, there’s that.
Like Evangeline Lilly, Dastmalchian’s role in Ant-Man has not yet been revealed, but they join Paul Rudd (Scott Lang / Ant-Man) and Michael Douglas (Hank Pym). Perhaps we’ll get some more information in a few weeks as Ant-Man will undoubtedly be a big part of Marvel’s presence at San Diego Comic-Con.
Ant-Man is directed by Peyton Reed and opens July 15, 2015.
