Word is making the Internet rounds that the CW‘s hit show Arrow has cast Devon Aoki (Sin City, 2 Fast 2 Furious) as a recurring guest star for season three and beyond. What DC character will she portray?

We all know Aoki from her role in Sin City as Miho, the mute assassin described by Dwight (Clive Owen) as:

Deadly little Miho. She won’t let you feel a thing unless she wants you to. She twists the blade. He feels it.

This time around Aoki will take on the role of DC Comics Tatsu Yamashiro, know to comic book fans as Katana. Created by Mike Barr and Jim Aparo in The Brave and the Bold issue #200 in 1983, Katana went on to become a part of Batman’s super hero team The Outsiders. The only question in my mind is what costume will the show use? The classic or the more modern post 52 version? Which would you like to see?

Katana has taken part in a recent Green Arrow comics story line about the martial arts group known as the Outsiders, a group divided in clans based on their weapon of choice, Arrow Clan for Bows, Sword clan for swords. You get the picture.

We know that the third season of Arrow will feature a lot of flashbacks to Oliver’s time in Hong Kong after he leaves the island. Katana will slip effortlessly into those flashbacks. Will we see her first in the current time line or will her introduction to the series and first appearance be in a flashback, is unknown at this time.

I really hope that the writers will include the Outsiders group and not just merge them with the already established League of Assassins. Although what I expect is that the writers will merge the two groups while making the Outsiders a secret subset of the League of Assassins.

I’m staying away from the big reveal from the Outsiders storyline, but I also have to tell you that I believe that Arrow‘s writers are going to want to use that big surprise. If they do, it will blow your nerdy little mind. That kind of plot twist fits right in with the established twists and turns of Arrow’s past story lines.

The third season of Arrow arrives on October 8th, but before then there will be a big Warner Bros and DC Entertainment event at this years SDCC. This would be an excellent time to introduce Aoki to Arrow fans. So keep your eyes out and your ear to the Internet rail. If and when that happens, we’ll bring it to you here.
