“Even the Sharknados are tougher in New York,” says Ian Ziering‘s character Fin while rallying the troops in the first official trailer for Sharknado 2: The Second One, which follows up last summer’s surprise sensation with more sharks, more big name cameos, and we can only hope more chainsaw swinging, bloody CGI deaths.
Judging by the clip, the sharks seem hell bent on taking the entire city, but there’s a focus on Queens, as Citi Field is featured prominently (haven’t Mets fans been through enough! Have we no sanctuary!). Perhaps the hipsters of Williamsburg didn’t have enough meat for the sharks, or the sharks, like most everybody else in the city, were victims of gentrification and simply couldn’t afford to populate places like Park Slope, or the Lower East Side.
The camp of Sharknado 2 seems to be equally, if not even more so, over the top, with Ziering noting:
No one wants to get eaten, but I’ve been eaten, and I’m here to tell ya it takes a lot more than that to bring a good man down, a lot more than that to bring a New Yorker down!
In addition to the cameos by Vivica Fox, Matt Lauer, and Andy Dick seen in the clip, Judd Hirsch, Dante Palminteri, Robert Klein, Richard Kind, Biz Markie, Perez Hilton, and Benji from the Howard Stern Show, are among the many other big names that appear in Sharknado 2.
When I spoke with Mark McGrath, who stars as Ziering’s character’s brother in law, about the film, he wouldn’t give out any spoilers, but said:
Fingers crossed I make it to number three, I mean, I’m just a fan who feels like he won a contest.
If Sharknado 2: The Second One is as successful as the first and ends up with a third, where do you think it should take place? Personally, after playing far too much Twisted Metal 2 in college my vote would be for Paris. A Sharknado destroying the Eiffel Tower would be a pretty cool visual.
