Buckle up folks, this Internet Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice roller-coaster of speculation and rumor is just beginning to climb that first big hill. We certainly haven’t gotten to the twistiest turns yet, and just wait until the whole thing turns upside down while doing corkscrew turns. This time around it’s not about what additional hero might show up, it’s all about the biggest, baddest, that Killer-from-Krypton, the one, the only, Doomsday.
That’s right, the creature that killed the once thought invincible Superman, is now rumored to show up in Zach Snyder‘s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. BleedingCool is leading the Internet charge reporting:
Bleeding Cool sources who have been rather reliable in the past have told us that they have seen Batman V Superman designs for the character of Doomsday. In the comics, Doomsday was the creature who killed Superman, in an epic battle across all the Superman titled, culminating a battle composed entirely of splash pages drawn by Dan Jurgens.
It’s an easy jump to make, Superman (Henry Cavill) needs an adversary that can take him past his limits, why else would he need help from other heroes? Who else could give Superman more than he could handle than the ancient Kryptonian creature that killed him in his own comic book pages? What better way to push the personal antagonism between Superman and Batman (Ben Affleck) we expect to see in the beginning of the film to the background, than something that can destroy them both, unless they work together?
BleedingCool hedges their bets on the rumor saying:
Now, of course, much can change in the production process. This may be used purely for flashback purposes on the screen, looking at the life (and death) of Superman. It may be purely for promotional efforts to accompany the film. Or it may not make it to the final cut.
Their right in that regard. There are uncountable numbers of characters and plot twists that lay forgotten on the writers, production, and editing room floors across Hollywood. If it doesn’t stick to the wall when thrown, directors and producers often don’t even bother to pick up the trash left in their wake. That’s what interns are for.
Here’s a couple of videos from the video games Injustice: Gods Among Us, DC‘s MMO DC Universe Online, and the animated Superman: Doomsday DVD. These should give anyone out there unfamiliar with the Doomsday character, just how powerful, and scary he can be.

It’s easy to see in those videos that Doomsday is one tough nut to crack, even for Superman. As was speculated earlier, Doomsday’s appearance in some pre-production artwork or designs could just be some brainstorming by those working on the movie, or it could be that Doomsday is only going to make a token appearance, setting it up so he can come in for the next movie which should be a full on Justice League.
We haven’t even touched the surface about who might play one of the biggest, baddest creature in the DC universe, or how the production might bring the character to the big screen. I’m sure it would involve some motion capture work and a lot of CGI, but will the actor voicing Doomsday also do the motion capture work like Mark Ruffalo does for the Hulk in The Avengers movies, or will it be an experienced motion capture artist like Andy Serkis?
Me, I’m still holding out hope that one day, we’ll get that one movie all of us that watched Saturday morning cartoons what to see in a DC live action movie, The Legion of Doom.
If I can’t get the Legion of Doom in one of the upcoming Justice League movies, can I at least get a decent pair of pants?
