It’s the 30 year anniversary of one of Nerdom’s cornerstone films, Ghostbusters. There’s a few things going on to celebrate that anniversary including theater screenings, a new LEGO set, and a traveling Ghostbusters art show. We’ve got all the Ghostbusters anniversary information for you here.

First off, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters, your local theater will be bringing the classic we all love back to the big screen, restored and remastered in 4K, for a limited time starting August 29th. Most of you, myself included, immediately asked yourself, “What the hell is 4K?”

Digital cinema projection – like digital television – is based on pixels. “K” is shorthand for roughly one thousand pixels. Most digital cinema projectors are only 2K, about 2000 pixels across. 4K is dramatically different, it creates over 4000 pixels horizontally. With four times the pixels of 2K projectors, 4K projection delivers amazing resolution and picture quality for a more compelling, more entertaining experience.

What that techno-babble means is this movie goes to 11 when it comes to pixels. Why not just relabel it to ten…. because it goes to 11 dude. The picture quality should be vastly improved over its 30-year-old predecessor.

You’ll have to check your local theater to find out when and where the 30th anniversary screenings will take place. I’ll be in Atlanta for Dragon Con at that time and I’m hoping that one of the theaters downtown will have a screening. Can you imagine what a blast it would be to attend a screening with that crowd of cosplaying Ghostbusters fans?

Here’s the 30th anniversary trailer that’s making the Internet rounds today:

There’s also a new LEGO Ghostbusters set coming out. Brent Waller submitted his Ghostbusters LEGO set to the LEGO CUUSOO and it quickly got the 10,000 votes back in August 2013. The set went through the review phase and was just released in June. Check your local store or online to pick up your set.

Are you planning any personal celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters? Perhaps a home screening and party? If you are there’s plenty of ideas on this Ghosbusters Party Pinterest page. Many Ghostbusters fans will be celebrating by showing the movie to their young ones, making new Ghostbusters fans is important.

We’re probably not going to get a Ghostbusters 3 any time soon. Dan Akroyd recently shot down those hopes. Max Landis (Chronicle) had some interesting ideas about a Ghostbusters 3 when he was rumored to be involved with the film. For now, we’ll just have to scratch that Ghostbusters itch with the 30th anniversary theater screenings.
