SPOILERS: UK ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Press Kit Reveals Fillion & Lee Cameos & Ruffles Some Feathers
Something like this was bound to happen, the Internet spent a week worrying it self to death over what Nathan Fillion‘s cameo in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy would be. Now, with the release of the UK Press Kit, we know all the who and what of the cameos, if we don’t know exactly where those will fit into the movie. I didn’t want to click it and find out, but after about 20 seconds of soul-searching, I crumbled so we could bring it to you here.

Last chance…. proceed at your own spoilery risk.
The folks over at Stitch Kingdom were issued a UK Press Release from Disney & Marvel Studios the other day which included the entire credits for the movie. There were the usual expected names listed, along with some definite details on who was what character.
Stan Lee will have his customary cameo, this time as the ‘Xandarian Ladies’ Man
Nathan Fillion will be dolled up as ‘Monstrous Inmate’
Rob Zombie lends his voice as the ‘Ravager Navigator Voice’
James Gunn himself will appear in the film as one of the ‘Maskless Sakaaran.’
Also appearing in the film, though not a cameo, is actor Fred the dog who assumes the role of Cosmo.
Well, that fits in with what Gunn and Fillion tried to tell the Internet back when guessing Fillion’s cameo was the flavor of the week. I have to say I am a bit disappointed that he won’t be Captain Mal. but I am glad that this role won’t pigeon-hole Fillion into a Marvel role yet. He will play a Marvel superhero one day, most likely after his run on Castle ends and his schedule clears up a bit. He has too many close relationships with the Marvel Powers that be to not get some Marvel superhero role in the future.
I’ve saved the biggest spoiler until now. So I’m going to give you one more chance to back out…
This one will blow many older Marvel Fans minds when they see it in the movie. None other than Howard the Duck will appear at some point in the movie. The UK Press Release gives a shout out in the end credits to Howard the Duck co-creators Steve Gerber and Val Mayerik. Before you run to Wiki and tell me that they also created a lot of other Marvel Cosmic characters and places that might be in the movie, know that Howard the Duck is specifically mentioned in that shout out in the credits.
That’s right, he couldn’t get a 25th anniversary DVD/Blu-ray release, but he’s back in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, it could end up that Howard the Duck only appears in comic book form as part of Peter Quill’s Earth Items Collection, but I’m hoping that the CGI duck himself makes it to the big screen.
The odds are a bit long for that though, I’m sure that James Gunn would have wanted the original voice of Howard, Ed Gale, back to do any speaking part for Howard. There was no mention of Gale in the credits so I’m betting we’ll only see Howard as a comic book or a mention in some part of Peter Quill’s movie dialogue.
That’s too bad. When I first saw this news I immediately dreamed of Marvel revealing the new Howard the Duck movie at this years SDCC Panel H. We’re getting our talking raccoon, why not add a duck to the mix? Dream big Marvel, dream big.
