‘Sinister Six’ Gets Official Release Date

There has been some speculation regarding the state of affairs when it comes to the release dates of the many Sony Spider-Man flicks and spin-offs in the works. At first it was thought that Amazing Spider-Man 3 would be the next to hit the big screen, but now the truth is officially official – Sinister Six will be Sony’s next big release. Furthermore, they have finally nailed down an exact release date.

If you’re looking to get a piece of the Sinister Six pie, you’ll be waiting just over two years, until November 11th of 2016. Spidey 3 was supposed to drop in the same year, on June 10th, but the execs have decided to branch out a bit and take on this (arguably) questionable project first. The third Amazing Spider-Man film has now been moved to sometime during 2018 and Sony’s Uncharted adaptation will be taking up the June 2016 slot.

Being as how a movie revolving exclusively around Spidey’s villains is a bit of a risky venture, the November release makes plenty of sense. There’s no need to send the six-pack of baddies (no matter how powerful they are) to do battle against the likes of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, X-Men: Apocalypse, Captain America 3 and other summer blockbusters, despite the presence of Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) as director. A nice, quiet November opening will be just what the Doctor (Octopus?) ordered so that Sony can get butts into seats and maybe even receive a warm reception for their villain-centric film.

For those that don’t already know, Sinister Six will gather six (hence the title) of Spider-Man’s long-time enemies in one evil group. The original team consisted of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven, Sandman, Mysterio and Vulture, though the line-up has changed a great many times over the years. Given the teasers that showed up in Amazing Spider-Man 3, however, I’d put my money on most of those names making the roster.

What say the Nerd Readers? What’s your dream team for a Sinister Six line-up? Or do you think Sony needs to shut this one down before they embarrass themselves?
