This is puzzling. I mean literally, not as in I’m confused about what’s happening here. As we hit the halfway point of Day 1 at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Marvel is slowly peeling away this excellent concept art image from Avengers: Age of Ultron. When fans assemble for the Marvel Studios panel on Saturday, there will likely be some kind of Avengers news in the form of a reveal or a teaser trailer, but in the meantime, you can enjoy this slow reveal of the coming fight against the sadistic robot Ultron.
Marvel.com began releasing the images last night with the initial reveal of Iron Man and Scarlet Witch, and that was followed up today with Captain America and Black Widow. The remaining heroes to be shown are Quicksilver, Thor, Hawkeye and the Hulk, which, I presume, will be released two at a time tomorrow and Saturday. This is the layout of what the finished picture will look like once all images are revealed:

So I guess this is pretty reflexive of what we know about Age of Ultron so far: Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) creates Ultron (James Spader) to recognize threats and dispatch a drone fleet of Iron Men to resolve those threats, and then Ultron goes bad and turns those robots on his creator and his cohorts, the Avengers. If this image is a taste of what the action of the film is going to look like, then all I have to say is that $#!% is about to seriously get real for everyone’s favorite superhero team. Can’t wait.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is in theaters on May 1. Stay tuned for more news from San Diego Comic Con all weekend long.
