Here’s your first official look at the new film version of Hitman. You remember the 2007 film Hitman, don’t you? It starred Timothy Olyphant and Olga Kurylenko and was directed by Xavier Gen (who’s also made the ‘X’ segment of The ABCs of Death). If you don’t then that’s okay, because the producers of Agent 47 certainly hope you don’t end up recollecting it. The official Facebook page and twitter handle for 20th Century Fox’s Hitman: Agent 47 have gone live. To help kick things off they’ve released the first official image of Rupert Friend (Homeland) as the title character.
In this picture we see Rupert Friend wear the well-tailored duds of Agent 47, an assassin under the employ of a powerful yet ambiguous organization called, oddly enough, “The Organization.”
No word yet on this version of the films story, but in the banner above, he’s got a shaved head and is wearing a suit. So at least they’ve got that going for them, which is nice.
Rupert Friend is a great actor, but being bald doesn’t suit him. He’s got a weird misshapen head (it looks like a funnel), which will certainly be a distraction to me as a viewer. I don’t quite see Friend as “perfect killer”. This reads more like diminutive accountant.
I bought one or two of the games from which this is franchise is based on. Played some, rage quit, and never went back. Also, I never understood why an assassin organization would have a bar-code tattooed on the back of their agents heads. Wouldn’t that rouse suspicion, atop the whole “men in black” thing? Eh, chalk it up to video game logic, I guess.
Directed by Aleksander Bach, the film stars Rupert Friend in the title role, along with Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware, Thomas Kretschmann, Dan Bakkedahl, and Ciaran Hinds. Hitman: Agent 47 is set for release on February 27, 2015.
