What do fair-weather baseball fans and Marvel’s Agents of Shield have in common? First sign of doom and they bail. Only true fans stick it out long enough to catch those special rare moments when the team they’re cheering for surprises everyone and makes for a rousing comeback win. That’s what happened with AOS. There’s no arguing the first half or so of the first season was to be called into question on the characterization and quality front. Doubts, however, were washed away when the show brought in the world changing events from Captain America: The Winter Solider and ended on a very dramatic high note. SHIELD got good, and it hopes to stay good.
Keeping the excitement going, Marvel was in full force today at San Diego Comic Con, where a number of Agents of SHIELD announcements for the upcoming second season were, well, announced. New characters revealed, secrets from Patton Oswalt, and more.
Below is an EW exclusive video that just played at Marvel’s TV panel at the San Diego fan convention where Oswalt — as his recent SHIELD guest-star role of Agent Koenig — reveals that next season SHIELD will add…
If you didn’t catch that, he said “Mockingbird, Mockingbird is in”. For fans of the comics, she’s a SHIELD field agent who used the costumed identity of the Huntress and also Mockingbird (see image below).
You remember when they said an Avenger could make a guest appearance on AOS? If Mockingbird shows up, Hawkeye can’t be far behind.
Tweets from Mavel’s own Agent M, revealed even more casting surprises. Tweeting that Lucy Lawless will be playing S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran Isabelle Hartly, Nick Blood has joined as Lance Hunter, and Daniel Whitehall will be the season’s villain and played by Reed Diamond.
“Today—just one day after production began on season 2—the S.H.I.E.L.D. gang was back together in San Diego for the show’s panel to tease upcoming episodes and discuss the first-season Blu-ray. Reflecting on the first season, they played the gag reel that is one of the bonus features on the disc release, due Sept. 9.” (Via EW)
Some may say the who first season was a gag reel.
I, for one, am looking forward to season 2. Agents of SHIELD finished strongly last season, even though the beginning was a little rough. Hopefully they can keep up the momentum they had at the end. I just really hope the new season has better casting and costumes than the last one did. No more laser-tag vests!
