At the end of the Marvel Studios presentation at 2014 San Diego Comic Con International, Marvel marketing mouthpiece Kevin Feige presented a video of Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt and director James Gunn announcing that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released on July 28th 2017.
Here is the previous story:
The movie isn’t even out yet, but clearly, everyone is hooked on a feeling for Guardians of the Galaxy. Early reviews are scoring %100 Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as scoring %99 ranking from audiences wanting to see it. Those are uncommonly high numbers, even for the best of films. One would assume those numbers will drop and balance out when film releases next week. But, they very well could stay high; even beating out Marvel’s The Avengers which leveled out at %92. In any case, buzz for this film has reached critical mass. Fans and general movie audiences are geared up for this irreverent adventure across the stars. It’s got flavor, heart, humor, charm, totally boss soundtrack, action galore, and a gun toting talking raccoon with an attitude problem. So many things working for it. There’s something for everyone!
With such early excitement abound, (much expected) sequel talks have begun. To the rejoice of Marvel fans everywhere, it’s been confirmed director James Gunn will shoot again!
The co-writer of the first film, Nicole Perlman, made the announcement when talking to The Wrap about how well the movie was doing with test audiences and the press saying:
“They started to figure it out pretty quick when they started getting the reactions from the audience; it was a very positive reaction. Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as it does well and people are excited about it, they’ll wanna do a sequel. So, it’s going to happen… James will be directing Guardians 2, so he would also be writing Guardians 2.”
The first one isn’t out yet and already we want a sequel? Only Marvel can do that with such brazen confidence.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy his theaters August 1. Until then, be sure to check out our GOTG page to bring yourself up to speed or rewatch trailers and spots till your hearts content.
