mike tyson mysteries

Love him or hate him, Mike Tyson is an American icon that has wormed his way into our culture and will likely stay there for centuries to come. This time around, he’ll be playing himself. Or rather he’ll be voicing himself on a new Adult Swim cartoon entitled Mike Tyson Mysteries. It’s basically like a bastard combination of Scooby Doo, The Venture Brothers and… well, just watch the trailer that they unveiled at SDCC for yourself and you’ll see.

The show was both written and executive produced by Hugh Davidson, the man responsible for Episodes II and III of the Robot Chicken: Star Wars trilogy. Yes, we are in good hands. During the SDCC panel, Davidson teased a little of what to expect in terms of plotlines for the show, including:

– Cormack McCarthy getting writer’s block and asking Mike and his team to help finish his novel.
– Mike and the gang visiting IBM to help someone only to find out that their client has been trapped inside a computer.

If you didn’t recognize those voices on your own, we have, of course, Tyson as himself, Norm MacDonald (Saturday Night Live) as the alcoholic Pigeon, Jim Rash (aka The Dean on Community) as the ghostly Marquess of Queensberry and Rachel Ramras (Mad TV) as Mike’s adopted daughter, Yung Hee. That’s quite the line-up of vocal talent. And that trailer is making it look like one of the best things Adult Swim has put out in quite a long time.

In case you need further convincing, here’s the blurb from Adult Swim:

In Mike Tyson Mysteries, a new half-hour animated adult comedy series, Mike Tyson is taking the fight from the boxing ring to the streets … by solving mysteries! Aided by the Mike Tyson Mystery Team – the Ghost of the Marquess of Queensbury, Mike’s adopted Korean daughter, and a pigeon who was once a man – Mike Tyson will answer any plea sent to him. If you have a problem that needs solving, Iron Mike is in your corner. The series incorporates live-action appearances featuring Mighty Mike himself, and the gloves come off as the former heavyweight champ and his team gear up for weekly adventures as they put unsolved mysteries down for the count.

Mike Tyson Mysteries will be coming to Adult Swim this fall sometime. When? We’ll let you know when we actually find out. Until then, just deal with it.
