It’s not unheard of for movies stars to “accidentally” take home some mementos from the set of their film, so when Chris Pratt, star of the at-this-point-all-but-guaranteed blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, recently revealed that he had sticky fingers before leaving the set of the Marvel Studios film, it didn’t come a surprise. The thing that was a little surprising though was Pratt’s stated reason for stuffing his suitcase with some extra stuff from the London set of Guardians, and it wasn’t about collecting fond memories or stuff his closet for a future Ebay auction.
While talking about all things Guardians, Pratt discussed nabbing a few items from the set, particularly his Star-Lord gear, including that distinctive red leather jacket. His intent wasn’t personal, but like a certain quarterback with the Seattle Seahawks, he was thinking of the children. Here’s what Pratt had to say:
“I stole the jacket and some of the wardrobe so that, if this movie comes out and does what everyone hopes it can, I can follow the example of someone — say, like, a Russell Wilson — and go visit kids. If it was a big enough movie to where it would mean something to a kid who’s sick in the hospital for Peter Quill or Star-Lord to come visit them, I’ll do that. I think that’s awesome, man. That would give me real meaning for this movie, you know?
Right now, it means high profile, cool jobs coming up, big press tour, and all the excitement of it all. But none of that really means anything. The coolest things would be that my son can one day see this, and that maybe I can go affect some kids in a positive way; be a good role model for them.”
Isn’t that sweet. No, really. It’s nice that Pratt is thinking about the bigger picture because if Guardians blows up as big as everyone and their brother seems to think, then a lot of kids out there will probably be very happy to see Star-Lord walk into their hospital room and pay them a visit, although they’d probably prefer Rocket Raccoon or Groot. Kidding aside, it’s a really nice thought. Quite a guy our Mr. Pratt!
