Anyone that knows who Batman is should know the origin of this iconic character. We all know that he lost his parents and went a bit batty (badda-bing!) and then started defending Gotham against the bad guys. And as far as we know, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be keeping all this back-story intact. What they may be changing up, however, might piss more than a few people off. Scroll on for the latest rumors regarding how the character of Batman might differ from his comic book counterpart.

Warning! It’s all rumor for now, but some of this may end up becoming SPOILERS.

According to “sources” over at Badass Digest we’ll be seeing the following elements pop up in Batman’s back-story:

– As the movie begins, Batman has been around for about 30 years.

– Batman is less visually active and more of a shadow-player. He’s been operating mostly from hiding and supposedly nobody has even managed to get a picture of the Dark Knight.

– The Batcave will have a memorial to Robin as a centerpiece, which could suggest that Batman has already lost one companion during his years. Past rumors have said that Nightwing will be mentioned and that the pair has had a falling out, so it could also be the remains of Nightwing’s past incarnation.

In addition, the “sources” claim that Wonder Woman will have been around for multiple years as well, though operating just as Batman, under a shadow of secrecy.

If the rumors turn out to be true, it could be quite the different incarnation of the Caped Crusader. I’m not sure if I can get on board with Batman being around for several decades and not being seen by the general public. His enemies do, after all, enjoy a bit of spectacle and if it’s one thing the comics prove it’s that Batman is often forced into the spotlight as one villain or another attempts to make a show of killing him.

As for the age thing, it seems to me that Warner Bros. may be looking to have a quick insert-and-exit strategy regarding Affleck as the Batman. Bring in the older, retired version and then, once Affleck has moved on, they have someone else don the Batsuit. They can have the new guy be as active as they want, so we get the best of both worlds. Whether the sedentary Batman will appease fans until then, however, remains to be seen.

What say the Nerd Readers to above rumors? Would you be okay with a Batman that lives in his cave and rarely comes out into the open? And what’s up with the Bat-Signal in the teaser they showed at SDCC? Did Batman build that simply so he could shine it at Superman or has it been around for a while? Sound off your own opinions in the comments and let the shit-throwing contest begin.

Oh yeah, we also have a new picture of Ben Affleck on the set of the movie:
