After all of the negative reviews and general smack talking, moviegoers proved Megan Fox right this past weekend by making Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the #1 movie in America. Some people loved it, some people hated it, others loved to hate it, but no matter how it adds up, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (The Secret Of Megan Fox’s Career?) is on the way. The June 3, 2016, release is sure to draw more ire from the online community that seems determined to chip away at producer Michael Bay’s career bit by bit, but for those with an open mind, the question that remains is where the sequel could go without rehashing material we have already seen throughout 5 motion pictures and several television series’. Looks like we may have an answer.
JoBlo decided to ask TMNT producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, and director Jonathon Liebesman if fans can hope to see Dimension X in the sequel.
Liebesman: I would love to. I mean it’s not up to me. It’s up to all of us to decide.
Fuller: But we’ve talked about those worlds already.
Form: There are scripts that have been written for this movie that integrated those worlds into it already…
Liebesman: They were just too…it made the movie a bit too unfocused for this particular story.
For those who may not be familiar with the Turtles’ mythology, Dimension X is the alternate reality in which the mutagen that transformed the Turtles came from. It’s home to Krang (pictured above) one of the Turtles’ arch nemeses, as well as other interesting characters on both sides of the good/evil spectrum. The inclusion of Dimension X was hinted at in the reboot with the explanation that the mutagen was from “aliens”.
If the filmmakers, none of whom have officially signed up for the sequel, decide to go the Dimension X route, it opens up plenty of potential for the sequel. Krang is a fan favorite and seeing him in movie form may be just the perfect thing to bring the people who didn’t love the reboot on board with the rejuvenated franchise. One thing is for certain, if Bay remains involved (which he likely will), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will have plenty of action. Hopefully, some of that action will take place in Dimension X.
