Adding to a kick ass heroine repertoire that already includes Wonder Woman and G.I. Joe‘s Lady Jaye, actress Adrienne Palacki is bringing her skills to a new role on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Who will she be playing? Well, I’ll assume you read the headline and say again that she’s playing Bobbi Morse, AKA: Mockingbird. The character was name dropped in Marvel’s TV panel at San Diego Comic Con, but what was at the time assumed to be an Easter egg is actually a major guest role for the fifth episode of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s second season.
Palacki’s casting was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, who says that “the episode will find her popping in perhaps not as an ally to Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team.” That’s weird because according to the Agents Koenig, she called in to tell Coulson that if he needs her, she’s in…
Maybe Sam dropped the ball and the message reads something like “if he needs her, she’s in… debt and available to the highest bidder.” Or “she’s in… big trouble and has not the time nor interest in assisting the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
So what’s the big deal, you may be asking? Well, Morse is a comic book character making an appearance on a comic book show, an experienced Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and super-heroine who in the comics marries Hawkeye, and becomes a founding member of the West Coast Avengers with him. And occasional instances of death aside, she remains active in the ranks of the team, serving with her husband and various iterations of the group. So it does lay out some interesting crossover potential, otherwise why hire a name actress like Palacki?
Palicki is confirmed right now for the one episode, but obviously there’s probably room for her to come back if she and the producers of S.H.I.E.L.D. are willing. Palacki will also have to navigate her recurring part on NBC’s About a Boy if she does end up returning though. The actress does however join a very powerful bench of supporting players for the new S.H.I.E.L.D. season including Kyle MacLachlan (Skye’s father monster), Reed Diamond (the villainous Daniel Whitehall), Henry Simmons (tech agent Alphonso “Mac” Mackenzie) and Lucy Lawless (S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Isabelle Hartly).
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s second season premieres September 23 at 9 pm on ABC.
