Legendary Pictures’ Dead Rising feature film has found a director. Zach Lipvosky will be bringing Capcom’s Zombie-Killing-Fest of a video game to Crackle the online streaming service. Tim Carter will be handling the script, you’ve seen his writing in games like Sleeping Dogs and the web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. For those of you wondering just what Lipvosky might bring to the movie, click-through and find out.
Lipvosky’s latest movie Leprechaun: Origins hits theaters this weekend and should be a good gauge of how he will approach the horror of Dead Rising.
Dead Rising takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative.
Once the film runs its course over at Crackle, there are plans for the film to be distributed though the usual formats of SVOD, DVD, VOD and TV.
There are so many different formats popping up these days. Everyone is trying to create new product for their platforms. The only problem being that some of these projects are going to be real stinkers. The only saving grace for this Dead Rising production is the involvement of the people who brought us the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. I’m willing to give this a chance based solely on that.
